Provisional Appointment to Fill the Vacancy on the

Morongo Unified School District Board of Education

Mrs. Denise Cohen resigned effective January 1, 2019, as she is moving from the area, leaving a vacancy on the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education.


On January 22, 2019, ­­­­­­­­John Cole was provisionally appointed by the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education to fill the vacant seat on the Morongo Unified School District Board from January 22, 2019, to December 11, 2020. 


Unless a petition calling for a special election pursuant to Education Code 5091 is filed in the office of the County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days of the provisional appointment, it shall become an effective appointment.


Pursuant to section 6061 of the Government Code, this notice will be posted in three (3) public places throughout the Morongo Unified School District and one time in a local newspaper.

Every student graduates prepared for college/career empowered to become a productive citizen in society.
On November 7, 2017, the Board of Education adopted a resolution to initiate the process of establishing trustee areas for board elections. Public hearings were held on the process, the proposed maps, and the final map. On February 27, 2018, the Board of Education adopted a resolution recommending a transition to elections by trustee areas. On March 28, 2018, the County Committee on School District Organization held a public hearing to receive comments. The County Committee then voted to approve the plan for Morongo Unified School District to transition to a by-trustee area election system. 
The map selected by the Board is linked below, along with an interactive map of trustee areas. The seats open for election on November 6, 2018, are:
Trustee Area #4, a full-term seat through November, 2022;
Trustee Area #5, a full-term seat through November, 2022;
and one at-large Board Member, a short-term seat through November, 2020. At the 2020 election, this will become the seat for Trustee Area #2, and will be a full-term seat through November, 2024.
