On behalf of the Board of Education and executive staff, I’d like to welcome you to the Morongo Unified School District. 

Our dedicated team of educators, administrators and support staff have been working tirelessly to enhance the educational experience for all students. We have implemented innovative teaching methods, expanded extracurricular opportunities and invested in professional development to ensure our educators are equipped with the latest tools and resources.

We incorporate our tag line into all that we do – “Our Students. Our Community. Our Future.” Community engagement remains a top priority for us, and we are committed to fostering open communication between the school district and our families. We encourage parents and community members to actively participate in school events, parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities to collaborate with us in nurturing the growth and development of our students.

About the Superintendent

Dr. Patricio Vargas is the superintendent for the Morongo Unified School District. He began working in education in 1996 as a dedicated teacher across various grade levels. Over the years, he transitioned into diverse administrative roles, including principal, coordinator for English learners, director of assessment, accountability and educational technology and assistant superintendent of educational services.

He holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from La Sierra University, along with a Ph.D. from the University of California Riverside, specializing in institutional leadership and policy studies. He serves as an adjunct professor at La Sierra University, helping to train the leaders of tomorrow. 

Dr. Vargas is also a devoted family man. He is happily married and is the proud parent of two children – a senior and a 7th grader. Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Vargas finds joy in reading, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. 

Throughout his career, effective communication and innovative practices have been at the center of Dr. Vargas’ leadership technique. He reevaluated teaching practices, enhanced instructional capacity, maximized student learning through digital tools and provided crucial social-emotional support for the well-being of both staff and students in various districts and schools throughout the state. 

Dr. Vargas places high importance on fostering equity. He comes from a multicultural, bilingual background and has consistently focused on closing the achievement gap for the students in the district.
