The Facilities Planning Department, a proud member of the Business Services Team, has the responsibility to provide the best possible facility-related environment for our students and staff.
This involves the continuous assessment of the NEEDS of our schools and the development of plans to meet those needs. In addition, we work to identify all of the available FUND SOURCES required to make significant capital improvements at our campuses. Working closely with our architects and engineers, we develop detailed PLANS and SPECIFICATIONS which must meet very stringent requirements.
Bids are solicited from qualified contractors for the completion of each respective project. Upon approval by the Board of Education, a contract for the project is approved with the "lowest responsive bidder".
During construction, we work closely with the educational leaders at each school to coordinate a PHASING SCHEDULE which minimizes disruption of the educational process. We visit the school sites frequently to monitor the progress and quality of the work and to maintain continuous attention to the safety for students, staff members and construction workers.
Upon completion of the work, we take the necessary steps to make an orderly transition of all modernized and improved facilities back to routine use by school staff and we inspect to ensure that all corrective work is completed.
Throughout the process, we closely monitor all project expenditures to ensure that all project funds are properly accounted for.
