United 4 Literacy is a team dedicated to promoting literacy to students and families in the MUSD. The path for the United 4 Literacy movement is based in the Science of Reading which is a vast, interdisciplinary body of scientifically-based research about reading.
It is a collection of research, over time, from multiple fields of study (psychology, education, linguistics, neuroscience) using methods that confirm theories on how children best learn to read.
Knowledge of the scientific research of the Science of Reading allows teachers to select and implement practices about reading that will be most effective for the most students.

The Reader by 9 initiative is a District-wide campaign aimed at ensuring all students achieve reading proficiency by the end of third grade. This ambitious initiative is part of the District's commitment to laying a strong educational foundation and empowering students with the skills they need for lifelong success.
